The Video Platform Offers The Community Control to Limit AI-Generated Media in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a fresh option that allows them to cut down on the volume of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their feeds. This move comes as the platform revealed that it presently contains over 1 bn AI videos.

Testing and Rollout

This change is being tested over the coming weeks before a full-scale release. This advancement aligns with a rise in AI content, spurred by new video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that almost one in 10 of the fastest-growing channels on a competing service exclusively feature content made by AI. A considerable share of this content is considered “AI slop”, a term for poor-quality, factory-style content that is frequently absurd or surreal.

Based on user feedback that numerous viewers like content created using AI tools, including computer-generated images to educational videos, and we aim to give people the option to adjust the amount of that, according to their own choices,” stated a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

The service disclosed that there are now 1.3bn videos on its service labeled as AI-generated. In total, over 100 mn pieces of content are added to the app daily, making AI-generated material a relatively small part of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be in a position to limit or boost the volume of artificial media they watch by using the content preference feature in the application and selecting AI-made media. Additional categories that are already be modified under the tool include politics, fashion, aesthetics, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

Its policies mandate users to identify “realistic” AI-made content, and it forbids harmful AI impersonations of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any authentic-looking AI video that is unmarked can be removed under its community policies.

Additionally, the platform will now apply an AI-generated tag to content made using its built-in AI features, or flagged by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This action is aimed to stop users from attempting to circumvent the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

The platform is also launching a $2 million educational fund for experts and organizations to develop learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will support charitable organizations dedicated to teaching programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has defended its content review process, following debate over intentions to cut jobs for a large number of review team members in Britain. The company is set to cut hundreds of positions in its content moderation team in its British office, with worker representatives and online safety experts voicing alarm that humans are being replaced by automated systems.

A trust and safety lead clarified that people-led review would remain essential, but AI can protect employees by eliminating the most distressing content prior to it gets reviewed by people. TikTok reported a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content seen by safety staff over the last 12 months due to reliance on its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to balance people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is where a lot of the machine support is proving valuable process content quickly.”
