Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at the judicial center on Friday

A person who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
